Itinerary

Enjoy a traditional felucca ride upon Egypt’s grand River Nile to Elephantine Island-Aswan's largest island on a private tour. Admire the colorful houses that await you from ashore as you hear notable snippets of culture and history from your private guide. Participate in one of the Aswan’s popular pastimes and board a felucca—a wooden sailing boat made distinctive by its large board sails and lack of motor. Cruise along the majestic Nile, just as the Pharaohs did many centuries ago, and head to Elephantine Island, formerly known as an ivory trading port. Your guide explains that the island’s name may have originated from this history or from its geographic shape, which resembles an elephant tusk. As you reach the island, admire its majestic fortress from the 1st dynasty and stand at what used to be the border between ancient Egypt and Nubia. This area is known for its relics dating back to the pre-dynastic period. Let your guide lead the way, as you enjoy a guided tour of the island. Be in awe of the history and myths of the island and, learn about how locals believe that the island is the dwelling place of Khnum, the ram-headed god of the cataracts, who guarded and controlled the waters of the Nile.
