Itinerary

Find one of the most significant sacred structures in Egypt, the Temple of Horus at Edfu, before a visit of the Temple of Kom Ombo. Your private guide enlightens you with tales of ancient mythology as you wander through edifices built in devotion to divine deities. Journey north along the fertile lands of the Nile to Edfu and see one of the best-preserved temples in the land. Learn from your guide how the imposing sandstone structure was built in honor of Horus – the falcon-headed god of war – and marks the site where he avenged his father Osiris' murder. Admire the statues of gods and pharaohs and wander through the inner sanctuary of the temple. Continue to the Temple of Kom Ombo, see its curious double entrance, and learn of its dedication to the gods Sobek and a Haroeris—a later form of Horus. Learn about the extensive restoration that had to take place in an area susceptible to natural disaster and the 300 mummified crocodiles found while doing so, some of which now feature in a marvelous display.
